Hello Shellcrest Members,

Thank you all for your continued patience as we have worked through the guidelines with Public Health on the opening of our swim club for the season. We are all navigating this together and ask for your patience and help as we prepare for what at least for the early part of the season will be a different experience at Shellcrest.

The good news is that we are planning to open Shellcrest this Saturday, May 23! Our pool manager, Scott Davis, and 2020 pool staff have done an impressive amount of work in a short period of time to get us ready to open and deserve our thanks. We’ve also had contributions from pool members in landscaping and painting which is greatly appreciated and think the pool property really looks good considering all the unknowns we have had.

After discussions with Public Health, it has been determined that Shellcrest can open at 20 percent of capacity which allows for approximately 87 members at the pool at one time. We want to ensure that everyone who wishes to use the pool is able to do so and we will be using a SignUpGenius to request that members notify us when they plan to be at the pool and select a morning or afternoon block of 4 hours so that we can plan accordingly.

Our schedule for the next two weekends will be:

Saturday, May, 23, Sunday, May 24 & Monday, May 25:

10am - 11am: reserved for age 60+ members

11am - 7pm: open to all club members

Friday, May 29:

5pm - 8pm, Member welcome & social (at appropriate distance of course) with on-site food truck. However, no swimming this evening.

Saturday, May 30 & Sunday, May 31:

10am - 11am: reserved for age 60+ members

11am - 7pm: open to all club members

Pool operations will look different for at least the first two weeks. Pool use will also be restricted to members during this time, and we will be asking members to sign a waiver when arriving at the pool that neither they or their family members are experiencing any symptoms related to COVID-19. Also, regarding face masks, the Division of Public Health guidelines state:  “Recommend face covering when not swimming and when unable to maintain 6 feet distancing. Children age 2 years or younger must not wear a face covering because of the risk of suffocation. Face coverings are not required for children age 12 years or younger.”

As for other amenities:

  • To allow for social distancing in the pool area, no pool chairs will be arranged around the pools as you are used to seeing. We encourage members to either bring their own chair or if they would like to use one of the pool chairs to please clean one off with provided disinfecting spray both before and after use.

  • We are fortunate to have a large pool property and encourage members to spread out! We want everyone to be comfortable and giving extra space is an easy way we can do that. Maybe bring a blanket to put down out on the grass and set up an area where you and your family can play and relax when not in the water.

  • The playground will be closed until Public Health gives ok for use.

  • The high dive will remain closed as the railings are a high contact point.

  • The snack shack will not operate at least for the first two weeks so that staff can focus on the frequent cleaning of high contact surfaces around the pool area.

  • The bathhouses will be restricted to use of the restrooms and no showers.

  • Members are still able to bring food and drink and utilize the pool grills if they wish to do so.

We know this is a lot of changes and Public Health has informed us that as the virus infection level declines further, restrictions will continue to be eased. We will likely be frequently updating pool operations and will communicate to members through email and our Facebook page to keep everyone informed.

Again, thank you for continuing to support Shellcrest. The safety of our members and staff are the top priority and if you have any questions, please let us know at shellcrestboard@gmail.com or ask Scott or any members of the board at the pool. The board is also planning a video conference call for members next week to answer any questions or concerns or comments from the first operating weekend and will send an invitation with those details.

We can continue to adjust our operations based on feedback we receive and what is laid out above is what the board feels is a good plan for safely operating our pool within the guidelines that have been issued.

If you are looking for further guidance on using the pool you can visit the CDC’s webpage regarding public pool use.

Lastly, if you know of anyone who may be interested in joining a swim club, please encourage them to arrange for a visit with us and we would be glad to show them around and discuss!

We hope to see you soon!

Sincerely,

The Shellcrest Board
